Owner Surrenders
Due to limited staff, we require appointments for owner-released animals to the SPCA. An evaluation will be performed on each animal for disposition and health before being accepted into our adoption program.
Please call the shelter or email: spca@arspca.org for an appointment.
The Augusta Regional SPCA provides an adoption facility year-round to the communities of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro, and to all communities outside these areas.
On September 1, 2011, the ARSPCA relinquished the duties of intaking stray companion animals to the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center in Lyndhurst, VA.
The Augusta Regional SPCA accepts owner-release animals Tuesday-Friday by appointment.
In 2022, the shelter provided loving attention and care to 403 animals, 115 were owner surrenders and 285 were received from approved rescue partners. Of these animals, 345 dogs and 27 cats were adopted.
The Staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers are involved in several fund raising and healthy pet promotional events throughout the year as well as programs which seek to educate pet owners and eliminate the birth of thousands of unwanted animals.
Shelter staff and volunteers are active in Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs in local schools, nursing homes, and adult day care centers.
Interment and Cremation
The Augusta Regional SPCA will no longer provide euthanasia services for owned pets. This service will need to be provided by your veterinarian.
The Augusta Regional SPCA will continue to provide cremation services to the community and also can provide burial services for your beloved pet at our pet cemetery. Please call the animal shelter for more information on cremation and burial services.
