Owner Surrenders
Due to limited staff, we require appointments for owner-released animals to the SPCA. Each animal is evaluated for disposition and health before being accepted into our adoption program.
Please call the shelter or email: spca@arspca.org for an appointment.
The Augusta Regional SPCA provides an adoption facility year-round to the communities of Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro, and to all communities outside these areas.
On September 1, 2011, the ARSPCA relinquished the duties of intake of stray companion animals to the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center in Lyndhurst, VA.
The Augusta Regional SPCA accepts owner-release animals Monday-Friday, by appointment.
In 2022, the shelter provided loving attention and care to 403 animals, 115 were owner surrenders and 285 were received from approved rescue partners. Of these animals, 345 dogs and 27 cats were adopted.
The Staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers are involved in several fundraising and healthy pet promotional events throughout the year, as well as programs that seek to educate pet owners and eliminate the birth of thousands of unwanted animals.

Interment and Cremation
The Augusta Regional SPCA will no longer provide euthanasia services for owned pets. This service will need to be provided by your veterinarian.
The Augusta Regional SPCA will continue to provide cremation services to the community and can also provide burial services for your beloved pet at our pet cemetery. Please call the animal shelter for more information on cremation and burial services.
