Pets for Seniors Adoption Program

At Augusta Regional SPCA, we believe that pets enrich lives at every age. Through the Jack Didawick Adoption Fund, our Pets for Seniors program makes it easier and more affordable for seniors in our community to experience the joy and companionship of pet adoption.

The Heart Behind the Program

In 2006, Dustin Didawick walked into Augusta Regional SPCA looking for a dog and found a lifelong family member instead. For over 14 years, Jack Didawick brought comfort, joy, and unconditional love to the Didawick family.

 

In Jack’s memory, the Jack Didawick Adoption Fund was created to help other seniors experience the same love and companionship Dustin found with Jack.

Special Adoption Rates for Seniors

Seniors aged 65 and older can adopt a 2+ year-old dog or cat from Augusta Regional SPCA at a reduced rate:

🐾 Cats: $25

🐾 Dogs: $50

 

Adoption fees include:

🐾 Spay or neuter surgery

🐾 Heartworm/Lyme testing (for dogs)

🐾 Feline leukemia combo testing (for cats)

🐾 Microchip

🐾 All age-appropriate vaccinations

 

This program helps more senior adults find the perfect furry friend while giving loving homes to pets who need them most.

How to Adopt Through Pets for Seniors

🐾 Check eligibility – Be age 65 or older and choose a dog or cat aged 2+ years
🐾 Submit an adoption application – Start online to speed up your visit
🐾 Meet adoptable pets – Visit Augusta Regional SPCA during adoption hours to find your perfect match

We’re Here to Help

Our staff is available:

  • 📞 Monday–Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM (by phone and for general services)

  • 🐾 Animal Visitation Hours:

    Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat: 1 PM – 4 PM

    Tues, Thurs: 1PM – 6PM

 

On weekends, our team focuses on caring for the animals in our shelter, but staff will be available on Saturdays when the shelter is open to the public.
