Volunteer or Foster. Change a life.
The Augusta Regional SPCA Volunteer & Foster Program provides opportunities to directly impact the lives of shelter animals. Whether you’re helping at the shelter or fostering a pet in your home, your time, care, and compassion help animals stay healthy, happy, and ready to find their forever families.
🐾 Provides animals with enrichment, socialization, exercise, and positive human interaction
🐾 Gives pets a safe, comfortable home environment where they can relax and show their true personalities
🐾 Helps animals learn important skills and behaviors that prepare them for life with a family
🐾 Supports pets recovering from illness, injury, surgery, or stressful shelter experiences
🐾 Expands our capacity to care for and rescue more animals in need
🐾 Creates better adoption outcomes by helping us learn more about each animal’s unique personality and needs
Whether you can volunteer a few hours each month or foster a pet for a weekend, several weeks, or longer, your time and compassion directly impact the lives of shelter animals and help them find loving forever homes. ❤️🐾
Take a shelter dog out for a day of fun—hiking, a park visit, or even a coffee shop stop. These adventures reduce stress, provide exercise, and teach pets social skills.
Host a foster dog overnight or for a weekend getaway. Short-term fostering lets pets relax in a home setting and gives us valuable insights into their behavior.
Provide care for animals recovering from surgery, illness, or injury. May include administering medication and monitoring recovery with guidance from our veterinary team.
Work with pets who need extra training or confidence-building. Ideal for experienced fosters willing to help dogs and cats overcome anxiety or behavioral challenges.
Complete the online volunteer/foster application to help us understand your experience and match you with the right opportunities.
Learn the basics of volunteering/fostering, including responsibilities, safety, and how to create a positive environment for your foster pet.
After watching, complete a short quiz to confirm readiness to volunteer/foster.
Once your quiz is approved, one of our volunteer/foster coordinators will reach out with next steps and help schedule your in-person orientation at the shelter.
